painting

For my sisters birthday I decided instead of doing the same thing we try something new...painting. Angela and Teri did not at all want to do this with me but I think because they didn’t want to hurt my feelings she said she would go and Teri showed up. We get to the studio, open the wine and grab the brush! Right away we were all laughing at each other and critiquing our yellow background. Teri’s point of view…. Teri’s was perfect, Angela and I had used the wrong yellow and we were only on step one! Teri said, “Do yall not know how to follow instructions?” We get to the blue paint, without hesitation I ask my first of many questions, and a fellow painter asked my sisters while pointing at me…. “Did she get the blue memo?”More laughter. The next step was the vase; all three of us looked over at each of our vases and made eyes at each other while reassuring each other all of ours looked the best….lots of laughter!
On to the flowers….Teri kindly let the art instructor know that an hour into the session she was now a professional because the steams Teri painted with her paint brush could not have been from the same brush that she painted with. Angela’s flowers were amazing; she kept asking us if she needed to do more and both Teri and I told her to stop…yes she kept painting. Let’s just say my flowers were not even close to what we were told to do…..again more laughter.
It’s funny how in painting there is the word "pain", last night while "pain"-ting I really thought it was going to be painful....boy was I wrong. It was a blast and totally worth trying something new. In the end, I would have to say I am not sure what I enjoyed more, the painting, the laughing with my sisters or the excitement to do it again as soon as we finished!

hudson/trenton sandwiches

I might be a little fanatical when it comes to hugging and kissing my boys...so much so that for about the past year now Trenton will not kiss me in front of his friends. At first this truly hurt my feelings but then I started to understand that he is 8 now and it is soooooo not cool to be seen kissing your mom. Now I try particularly hard to control myself with Trenton to hugs and kisses in the house only so I do not embarrass him so much. Since I have started this we now do a Hudson sandwich or a Trenton sandwich...the person who is in the middle is the sandwich. Last night was the funniest sandwich hugging of all and it just delights me so much I have to write about it!
Hudson requested we do a Hudson sandwich last night. Of course when we do this it makes all of us laugh but last night Hudson laughed so hard he couldn’t even make sound! It was hysterical. His face gets like mine when he laughs, high round cheeks, eyes squinty and red. Than it was time to switch and it was Trenton’s turn. Both the boys were laughing so hard that we all laughed harder! I went to bed thinking this is exactly why God puts children on this earth….to laugh, to love and to just be kind to each other. Please don’t get me wrong…our house is very loud! Trenton and Hudson 98% of the time are yelling at each other, hitting each other or telling on each other…it drives me crazy. But for those five minutes of Trenton/Hudson sandwiches it actually cancels out the 98% of craziness!
